13 individuals arrested for charges of human trafficking and illegal immigration in Libya

Falcon powers – The Libyan Attorney General announced the arrest of 13 individuals on charges of involvement in organizing illegal immigration operations and human trafficking, as well as the unlawful detention of others in the regions of Kufra and Tazirbu.

This step comes as part of an ongoing campaign to combat the crimes of human trafficking and illegal immigration that Libya has been increasingly suffering from in recent years.

Within the framework of this campaign, 197 migrants were freed from unlawful detention and torture in illegal detention centers run by criminal groups.

The necessary medical and psychological care was provided to these migrants after their liberation, in preparation for their resettlement or repatriation to their home countries, in coordination with the relevant international organizations dealing with migration and refugees.

Additionally, the Libyan investigative authorities issued orders to pursue 76 other suspects involved in human smuggling and trafficking networks.

The Libyan authorities are cooperating with local and international security agencies to track down and dismantle these networks, in an attempt to curb this phenomenon that has exacerbated due to the political and security turmoil in the country.

These efforts reflect the Libyan authorities’ commitment to combating human trafficking and protecting the rights of migrants and refugees, despite the significant challenges they face.
