Turkey Declares “Imminent End” to Its Operations in Iraq and Syria

FALCON POWERS – Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced on Saturday an imminent end to the operation the military is conducting against the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) in northern Iraq and Syria.

Addressing graduates of the military academy in Istanbul, Erdogan said, “We will very soon accomplish the closure of the operational area in northern Iraq.”

The Turkish president also confirmed “inflicting painful blows on the terrorist organization,” referring to the PKK.

He added, “We will complete the outstanding points in the security belt along our southern borders in Syria. We are determined to eliminate any structure that poses a threat to our country along the borders with Iraq and Syria.” He continued that “the separatist organization has become incapable of moving within our borders. In Iraq and Syria, it is completely besieged.”

Turkey launched these operations in April 2022 after accusing the PKK presence in Iraq and Syria of targeting its territories with attacks.
