Haifa Mayor: Estimates show we will remain continuously in shelters and parking lots

FALCON POWERS – The mayor of Haifa, Yona Yahav, said in an interview on “Radio North” today, Monday, that the municipality is not being informed of developments and forecasts of the situation on the Lebanese border, and that the estimates are that if the war with Hezbollah escalates, the city’s residents will remain four consecutive days in shelters and parking lots under the buildings.

Yahav pointed out that “we are now changing the way of building parking lots. We are preparing them for prolonged stay because according to the estimates we will remain in the shelters and parking lots for at least four consecutive days, and this requires equipping them, such as building toilets, which are not available today, and we have ordered their construction in new construction projects.”

He added that “construction contractors have fully understood this matter and that the buildings must undergo major changes due to the security situation, such as the width of the streets for the benefit of the shape of the evacuation of the residents. These are matters that have not been taken into account so far, and now they must be taken into account.”

Yahav said, “I cannot speak on behalf of the north and I do not really know what is happening there. No one has informed me as if we are not the largest and most important city in the north. We are not being informed of what is happening.”

He pointed out that “the commander of the Home Front will visit us tomorrow for the first time, and we will listen to his words, but we are doing everything to ensure that the city and its residents are safe and know what to do in the event of falling missiles, which will be more accurate than they were in 2006” referring to the Second Lebanon War.
