FALCON POWERS – At least 11 people were killed due to the collapse of a section of a bridge in northern China, while rescue teams continued to search on Saturday for around thirty missing people, according to state media reports.
Vast areas of northern and central China have been subjected to heavy rains since Tuesday, causing floods and severe property damage.
According to the official Xinhua news agency, the collapse of the highway bridge in Shanxi province that crossed the Fenhe River occurred on Friday due to heavy rains and sudden flooding, leading to the deaths of 11 people, while more than thirty individuals remain unaccounted for as a result of the disaster.
Shanglu is located about 900 kilometers southwest of Beijing.
State television broadcast footage of the bridge showing a part of it collapsing into the river’s strong current, while the structure in the other direction remains standing.
The television reported that rescue teams recovered 11 bodies from five construction vehicles that had fallen into the river.
