The Ukrainian Military: Russia Launches One of the Largest Drone Attacks During the War

FALCON POWERS – The military administration in the Ukrainian capital Kyiv said on Wednesday that Russia launched several waves of drones towards Kyiv in one of the largest attacks of its kind during the war, keeping the city on high alert for aerial strikes for nearly the entire night.

Serhiy Popko, head of the Kyiv military administration, said air defense systems destroyed more than 30 drones by 6:30 a.m. (0330 GMT) on Wednesday, in what was also Russia’s seventh attack on the city in July. Popko wrote on Telegram, “It was one of the largest drone attacks on Ukraine during the entire war.”

He added, “At the moment, according to the operational report at this time, there are no casualties or damage in Kyiv.”

The full scope of the attack was not immediately clear. Russia did not immediately comment.

Russian state news agencies, citing Russian fighters in Ukraine, reported that the attacks targeted a number of airports and military depots across Ukraine.

Reuters could not independently verify the Russian reports.

Kyiv and much of central and eastern Ukraine had been on alert for air raids since 8 p.m. Greenwich Mean Time on Tuesday.

Kyiv Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko said on Telegram that the attack on the city came from several directions.

Reuters witnesses reported hearing several explosions during the night, apparently from air defense systems working to repel an aerial attack.
