Falcon powers – German newspaper “Vaz” reported that Lufthansa, the largest German airline, has suspended its flights to and from Tehran until Thursday, April 11, for security reasons.
The newspaper quoted a spokesperson for the company as saying, “After careful evaluation, Lufthansa has decided to suspend flights to and from Tehran until Thursday, April 11, 2024.” The spokesperson added, “The safety of our guests and crew is of utmost priority for Lufthansa.”
The spokesperson did not provide specific reasons and only referred to the decision being related to “the current situation in the Middle East.”
In recent years, Lufthansa has suspended its flights to Tehran on several occasions, particularly in relation to mass protests following the death of Mahsa Amini, as well as after a drone attack on the city of Isfahan.
On Monday, Israeli airstrikes targeted the Iranian consulate building in Damascus, resulting in significant damage to the building and nearby structures, and the killing of everyone inside, including the two brigadier generals in the Revolutionary Guards, Mohammad Reza Zahedi and Mohammad Hadi Hajizadeh, along with five accompanying officers.
Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi affirmed that “this cowardly crime will not go unanswered.”
In response, Israeli Foreign Minister Yair Lapid stated that Israel is not afraid of Iran’s retaliation, noting that “Israel did not claim responsibility for the attack on Damascus, but Iran has said it will respond to us.”
