FALCON POWERS – Clashes broke out between police and protesters during a pro-Palestinian march in the heart of the Greek capital, Athens, following the Israeli military’s ground and air attack on a part of eastern Rafah in the Gaza Strip.
Over 300 individuals waved Palestinian flags and gathered outside the parliament building in Athens.
Protester Antonis Dafanilos, a 60-year-old retiree, stated, “We are here to show our solidarity and offer our support when Palestinians ask for it.” Police used tear gas to disperse a small group of demonstrators who had climbed the gate of the Egyptian embassy located opposite the parliament, but the clashes did not last long.
The Ministry of Health in the Gaza Strip announced on Tuesday that at least 34,789 Palestinians have been killed and 78,204 injured in the ongoing conflict over the past seven months. The war erupted when militants from the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) launched an attack on southern Israel on October 7th, resulting in the death of 1,200 Israelis and the holding of around 250 hostages, with 133 believed to still be held in Gaza, according to Israeli statistics.
Hamas announced on Monday that it had informed mediators of its agreement to a proposed ceasefire, but Israel stated that the conditions did not meet its demands and continued its strikes on Rafah, aiming to eliminate Hamas’ military capabilities.
