South Africa Requests International Court of Justice to Order Israel’s Withdrawal from Rafah

FALCON POWERS – The International Court of Justice announced on Friday that South Africa has requested the court to order Israel’s withdrawal from Rafah as part of additional emergency measures due to the war in Gaza.

In the ongoing case brought forth by South Africa, accusing Israel of committing acts of genocide against Palestinians, the court in January ordered Israel to refrain from any acts that could fall under the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide and to ensure that its forces do not commit acts of genocide against Palestinians. In its newly published request on Friday, South Africa seeks additional emergency measures in light of the ongoing military operations in Rafah, which it refers to as the “last refuge” for Palestinians in Gaza.

South Africa has requested the court to order “the state of Israel to immediately withdraw and cease its military assault in Rafah,” as well as to allow UN officials, humanitarian aid organizations, journalists, and investigators to access Gaza without obstacles.
