German Foreign Minister: Ukraine Needs Long-Range Weapons to Defend Kharkiv

FALCON POWERS – On Friday, German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock said that Ukraine needs more long-range weapons to counter the Russian advance in the northern Kharkiv region, as the situation remains “catastrophic” in the country’s second-largest city.

Russian forces have advanced several kilometers at least in the region in recent days, forcing Ukrainian forces, which are facing a shortage of troops, to defend the new front as Moscow intensifies pressure on the eastern front.

Speaking on the sidelines of a meeting in Strasbourg, Baerbock said it is important to cut off Russian supply routes and provide Ukraine with weapons “that can be used at medium and long ranges.”

She added, “We are working with partners to achieve this… The overall situation is extremely difficult.”

Germany has become the second-largest supplier of weapons to Ukraine since the Russian invasion in 2022, but Chancellor Olaf Scholz has so far refrained from providing Ukraine with long-range missiles.
