FALCON POWERS – Video footage showed a “giant meteor” across the skies of Portugal and Spain on Saturday night, mesmerizing millions with a blue fireball that lit up the night sky.
The celestial object was observed flowing through the atmosphere, illuminating the clouds with a bright blue color similar to the glow of a neon light, for approximately 7 seconds.
The European Space Agency stated that the meteor appears to be a piece of a comet that detached and entered the Earth’s atmosphere at an altitude of around 60 kilometers.
The meteor was traveling at a speed of 2,700 kilometers per hour. Authorities received reports of an object falling from the sky in the city of Viçosa, but they were unable to determine the location of a potential impact or whether any part of the meteor had fallen to the ground, according to the Portuguese newspaper “Público”.
Viçosa is located in central Portugal, approximately 320 kilometers north of the country’s capital, Lisbon.
While the European Space Agency said it is unlikely that any part of the meteor will reach the ground.
