FALCON POWERS – Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares commented on the decision of the Israeli authorities to cut off contact between the Madrid consulate in Jerusalem and the Palestinians.
Albares said in an interview on the RAC1 channel on Friday that his government will protest to the Israelis about the decision to prevent the Consulate General in Jerusalem from serving West Bank Palestinians.
He pointed out that the executive authority will analyze the announcement made by Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz, and then a response will be given, emphasizing that “in the Spanish government there are no anti-Semites, but it is a tolerant, pluralistic and diverse government that does not accept any hate speech, including anti-Semitism.”
Albares added: “No one will intimidate us to refrain from demanding an immediate ceasefire and recognition of the State of Palestine.”
Earlier, Katz had announced the “severing of contacts” between the Spanish diplomatic mission and the Palestinians in the West Bank, in response to the announcement by the Spanish Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, that his country will officially recognize the Palestinian state on May 28.
