Denmark… Parliament rejects bill to recognize the State of Palestine

FALCON POWERS – The Danish Parliament rejected, on Tuesday, a bill to recognize the State of Palestine, after the government had previously said it would not support this move.

Reuters agency explained that the Danish Parliament’s vote against the bill to recognize a Palestinian state came after Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen had earlier confirmed that the necessary preconditions for an independent state are not in place.

The Danish government affirmed that it will not support the decision, with Rasmussen stating: “To be a state, you need to have land that you control and some authorities that can exercise control, and that is not precisely the situation right now.” Norway, Ireland and Spain had previously announced their recognition of Palestine as a state, with the decision to take effect on Tuesday, May 28, coinciding with the Danish vote.
