Lebanon and Gaza War

Hebrew Website: Fears in Israel that the Egyptian Army Will Reach Tel Aviv Through Gaza Tunnels

Falcon powers – “Did Egypt assist in the Gaza tunnels to make them a potential attack route against us?”, claimed the Israeli news website nziv.net, suggesting a connection between the Gaza tunnels and the Egyptian army.

The Hebrew website stated that at the beginning of the war on Gaza, a huge opening for a tunnel was discovered in northern Gaza that could allow vehicles to pass through it. The Egyptians, who enabled Hamas to arm itself, expressed their opposition in every way to the Israeli army’s seizure of the Philadelphi Axis.

The website added that the other dimension that was not taken into account is the military aspect of these tunnels spread along the Egyptian border with Gaza, where Hamas’ tunnels can be used as an important shortcut for the Egyptian army to reach the heart of Israel.

The Hebrew site pointed out that in the 1948 war, the nascent Israeli army was able to stop the Egyptian army on the outskirts of the city of Ashkelon after it was stopped by the settlers of the kibbutzim who stood in its way to prevent it from penetrating into Israel.

The website asked: “What would happen if tomorrow a division of the Egyptian army came out of a tunnel in northern Gaza in the middle of the night and headed towards Tel Aviv and the air bases there? What happened on October 7 would seem like child’s play compared to that.”

Yesterday, the Egyptian army announced the death of an Egyptian soldier on the border strip with Rafah, confirming the opening of an investigation into the incident. Funeral rites for the soldier are taking place at this moment.

Egyptian media reported yesterday, quoting a source, that Cairo “warns against tampering with the security and safety of the Egyptian security elements deployed on the border”, after the exchange of fire between Egyptian and Israeli soldiers in Rafah.

The killing of the Egyptian soldier has raised fears of pushing the region into a full-blown war, especially in light of the unprecedented tension in Egyptian-Israeli relations.

In turn, the Egyptian military spokesman said: “The Egyptian Armed Forces are conducting an investigation through the competent authorities regarding the incident of opening fire in the border strip area of Rafah, which led to the martyrdom of one of the elements assigned to security.”
