FALCON POWERS – The Swedish government has announced plans to tighten laws against residents in Sweden who pose a threat to Sweden’s security. According to the Swedish Minister of Justice, the Swedish government is seeking to deport gang criminals and members of criminal networks without convicting them of a crime.
To implement this law, the government has requested the start of a government investigation to legislate a law that allows the deportation of immigrants with residency permits who are members of criminal networks or engaged in criminal activity, without judgments or cases against them. The investigation will also examine the possibility of the security service (SÄPO) detaining foreigners and deporting individuals who pose a threat to Sweden’s security in more cases.
Justice Minister Gunnar Strömmer told SVT that “organized crime poses a threat to order and our domestic security in a similar way.” The current law includes security threats such as espionage or terrorism, but the government wants to expand it to include gang criminals.
If the government achieves its goal, it will be possible to deport immigrants with residency permits who can be linked to criminal networks, even if the person has not been convicted of any crime.
