Hamas Speaks of “Obstacle” Posed by Blinken During His Visit to the Region

Falcon powers – According to the article, Sami Abu Zuhri, head of the foreign political bureau of Hamas, told Reuters on Monday that U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken’s statements regarding the ceasefire in Gaza were biased towards Israel, and that his position represents a real obstacle to reaching an agreement.

Abu Zuhri stated, “Blinken’s speech during his visit to Cairo is an example of bias towards Israel, and providing American cover for the massacre being practiced by the occupation in Gaza. These positions are the real impediment to reaching any agreement.”

Prior to leaving Cairo for Israel on Sunday, Blinken had called on governments in the Middle East region to “pressure Hamas” to accept a ceasefire proposal in Gaza. Blinken said in press statements directed at governments across the region, “If you want a ceasefire, press Hamas to say yes,” referring to the ceasefire proposal put forward by U.S. President Joe Biden.

The Foreign Minister also added that “the overwhelming majority of people, whether in Israel, the West Bank or Gaza (…) want a future in which Israelis and Palestinians live in security and peace.”
