U.S. Vice President Announces $1.5 Billion in Assistance for Ukraine

FALCON POWERS – U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris announced over $1.5 billion in assistance, with a portion dedicated to Ukraine’s energy sector and improving the humanitarian situation in the country amid the ongoing Russian invasion of over 27 months.

The announcement came during Harris’ attendance at the Ukraine Peace Summit in Lucerne, Switzerland, where she is scheduled to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and deliver a speech at the summit’s plenary session. The Vice President’s office stated that the $1.5 billion package includes $500 million in new funding for energy sector assistance, and the redirection of $324 million from previously announced funds towards urgent energy infrastructure repairs and other needs in Ukraine.

Harris’ office said “These efforts will help Ukraine address the impacts of recent Russian attacks on energy infrastructure by supporting repairs and restoration of normal operations, improving Ukraine’s resilience to energy supply disruptions, and laying the groundwork for rebuilding and expanding Ukraine’s energy system.”

Additionally, Harris announced over $379 million in humanitarian assistance from the U.S. State Department and USAID to support refugees and others affected by the war.

These funds aim to help meet the needs for food, health services, shelter, water, sanitation, and hygiene for millions of Ukrainians.
