Ukraine: Repel attacks near two villages Russia claimed to have captured

FALCON POWERS – The Ukrainian military said on Monday it had repelled Russian attacks near the villages of Novoleksandrivka and Spirne in the eastern Donetsk region, a day after Russian forces claimed to have captured them.

The army said the Pokrovsk eastern front, where Novoleksandrivka is located, is still seeing fierce fighting, adding that the Ukrainian forces repelled around 42 attacks as part of 142 battles during the past day. The area is being closely monitored along the border for any signs that Russia intends to open a new front there to put pressure on the numerically inferior Ukrainian forces.

Russia launched an attack on the border regions of Kharkiv in northeastern Ukraine in May as part of its ongoing full-scale invasion that began 28 months ago.
