New British Foreign Secretary: We Seek a Balanced Position on Israel and Gaza

Falcon powers – The new British Foreign Secretary, David Lammy, said on Saturday that the UK is seeking a balanced position on Israel and Gaza.

Lammy, in remarks made during his visit to Germany as part of his first tour after taking office in the new Keir Starmer government, said that London will use diplomacy to reach a ceasefire in Gaza and secure the release of detainees.

He added that the fighting must stop, and that aid must be allowed to enter the Gaza Strip.

The new British Foreign Secretary’s comments came on the same day that the UK witnessed massive protests demanding the cessation of the war on Gaza and the halt of arms supplies to Israel.

On Friday, Lammy had called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, marking his first stance since his appointment.

The previous British government under Rishi Sunak had adopted a pro-Israel position in its ongoing war on Gaza since last October, and had refused to call for an immediate ceasefire, before shifting its stance towards calling for a “sustainable” ceasefire.
