After War Warnings, Surge in Sales of Generators in Israel

FALCON POWERS – The warnings from an Israeli energy official about the ease with which Hezbollah could knock out Israel’s power grid have caused a sense of unease and concern among residents of northern Israel, leading them to purchase electricity generation products.

The Israeli Channel 12 website reported that immediately after the statements made by Shaulz Goldstein, the CEO of the company responsible for managing the power grid “Niga”, there was a 5-fold jump in searches for generators on the company’s commercial website.

It added that there was a 24% jump in product sales compared to the daily average during this period. It explained that with the closing of stores of one of the commercial chains on Friday, there was a 108% jump in sales of these products compared to regular Fridays.

The sales were not concentrated in the north alone, as the largest share of demand was recorded in the Haifa branch, followed by Tel Aviv, Kiryat and Rishon Lezion, and Ashdod.

Electrical warehouses also talk about a major deal made by a real estate owner in Tel Aviv, who transferred 18 power generation units to the tenants of the building he owns, which can be charged with solar panels. The official responsible for the electricity sector had confirmed in the controversial statement that Israel is not ready for a real war.

Goldstein added that Hezbollah can easily bring down Israel’s power grid and that “it is not possible to guarantee the presence of electricity in Israel in a future war, we are prepared for all possible scenarios.”

Goldstein’s statement caused an uproar, and as a result, the “Niga” company stated that his words “do not represent the company’s professional assessments of the readiness of the energy sector in Israel for an emergency situation.”
