Belgium: Opening of a fish sorting factory using artificial intelligence

FALCON POWERS – Coinciding with the massive increase in the wholesale fish industry, Alfa Fish, one of the leading companies in Belgium, has launched a new site equipped with artificial intelligence technologies in Campine.

The official opening of this site, which will double the company’s capacity to process fish efficiently and sustainably, has taken place.

Thanks to the modern technology used at this new site, Alfa Fish can accurately identify fish species, significantly improving sorting and processing operations.

In this context, Steven Timmermans, the company’s spokesperson, stated: “This new building allows us to be pioneers in sustainable fish processing in Flanders.” Timmermans added: “Six years ago, the company’s sales were only 4 million euros, and now they have reached 24 million euros per year, reflecting remarkable growth in operations and productivity.”

Alfa Fish is heading towards a radical transformation in the fish industry in Belgium, aiming to increase its production from 1,800 tons per year to 7,350 tons per year through the new site.

As the largest importer of tuna in the country, the company also seeks to become one of the largest Flemish buyers at the Flemish auction, which will boost the local income of fishermen in the north of the country.
