Falcon powers – Protesters who gathered in the center of Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan, on Friday evening after an incident between locals and foreigners, agreed to disperse after negotiations with the city’s police chief.
The Bishkek police said in a statement in the early hours of Saturday that “the situation in the city is stable and under the full control” of the security forces.
The statement added that police elements are still densely deployed in the city and are conducting patrols, confirming the restoration of traffic movement in all the streets of the capital.
Earlier, the security forces had cordoned off an area in central Bishkek where a crowd of about a thousand people had gathered, demanding justice for the participants in the mass brawl that occurred on May 13 near a hotel for foreigners in Bishkek, during which a number of local residents were beaten by foreigners, according to local media.
Hundreds of men gathered outside the foreigners’ hotel on Friday evening with the intention of “dealing with the foreigners,” and limited riots occurred, which the reinforced police forces were able to contain and arrested about 10 of the protesters.
At the same time, the authorities announced the opening of a criminal case regarding the beating of local residents, and the detention of three foreigners for investigation.
