Chinese Foreign Minister: Secessionist Activities Seeking “Taiwan Independence” are the Most Destructive Elements to Peace across the Taiwan Strait

FALCON POWERS – Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said here on Tuesday that the Taiwan issue lies at the heart of China’s core interests, and that secessionist activities seeking so-called “Taiwan independence” are the most destructive elements to peace across the Taiwan Strait.

Wang, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, expounded China’s official position on the Taiwan issue during his speech at a meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in Astana.

Wang condemned the acts of individuals like Lai Ching-te, describing them as shameful betrayal of the nation and ancestors. He said that no matter what tricks they play, they cannot prevent China from eventually achieving complete reunification, as Taiwan must return to the embrace of the motherland.

Wang said all secessionists seeking so-called “Taiwan independence” are destined to be nailed to the historical pillar of shame.

During the meeting, Wang expressed appreciation to the member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization for their firm commitment to the one-China principle based on the basic norms of international relations regarding the defense of state sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity.

Wang said he believes the world will continue to support the just cause of the Chinese people in opposing secessionist activities seeking so-called “Taiwan independence” and striving for national reunification.
