Danish Prime Minister Attacked in a Square in Copenhagen

Falcon powers – The Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen was attacked by a man in one of the squares in the capital Copenhagen, according to the official Danish news agency Ritzau on Friday. The Copenhagen police confirmed on the site “X” (formerly Twitter) that one person had been arrested in the case and that the investigation is ongoing.

No immediate information was provided on how the attack occurred or whether Frederiksen was injured. The Prime Minister’s Office told the Danish Broadcasting Corporation (DR) that she is “shocked” by the incident.

The reports did not provide further details, and it was not clear in what context the attack occurred, but it comes ahead of the European Parliament elections on Sunday.

Frederiksen was campaigning with the main European Union candidate for the Social Democratic Party, Christel Schaldemose. Media reports said the attack was not related to an event during the election campaign.

Politicians across the political spectrum within the small Scandinavian country and abroad have reacted with shock and condemnation to the news of the attack.

Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson said “an attack on a democratically elected leader is also an attack on our democracy”, while Charles Michel, President of the European Council, condemned what he described as “the cowardly act of aggression” on X.
