Egypt: Hamas Accepted the US Offer, Awaiting Israel’s Response

Falcon powers – Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry said that the current proposal to cease fire in Gaza and allow aid to enter the enclave is worthy of acceptance.

He stated that Egypt is awaiting Israel’s response to the ceasefire proposal, after Hamas announced they have positively received the offer.

The Foreign Minister added during a press conference with his Spanish counterpart in Madrid that Egypt is encouraging the warring parties to accept the proposed plan, and Egypt continues to communicate and coordinate with its partners to end the war that has resulted in the deaths of 37,000 Palestinians, mostly women and children.

Shoukry further stated that Egypt aspires to resolve the Palestinian issue based on a two-state solution and the establishment of a Palestinian state within the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.

He indicated that the ongoing events in Gaza are deeply concerning Egypt due to the humanitarian damage, and that Israel’s practices violate international law, with the Gaza war exposing the region to chaos.

In response to a question about the Israeli presence near the Egyptian border, he explained that the Israeli invasion of Gaza is rejected by most of the international community, and their connection to the Rafah crossing is rejected by Egyptian policy, as the crossing represents a key means of communication between Egypt and Gaza to provide aid and evacuate the wounded.

He also mentioned that the peace treaty between Egypt and Israel has been stable for 4 decades and has mechanisms to address any violations, stressing that the treaty must be respected and its terms upheld.
