European Official Warns of New Wave of Migration to Europe, Describes Lebanon as a “Powder Keg”

Falcon powers – The Secretary-General of the Norwegian Refugee Council expressed concerns about another “mass exodus” of refugees towards Europe due to the war in Gaza and the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah.

Jan Egeland stated that Lebanon has welcomed refugees from Palestinian territories and war-torn Syria for decades, but the small Mediterranean country is no longer able to cope with this burden, especially with reduced aid.

In an interview with Sky News, Egeland also discussed his visit to southern Lebanon, where he said that civilian populations are “bearing the brunt” of the ongoing conflict between Israel and Lebanese Hezbollah.

Egeland added, “Lebanon is a powder keg, also because of the aid cuts at the moment, the cuts in food rations, the cuts in cash assistance, and the breakdown of the healthcare system.”

Hezbollah and Israel have been exchanging near-daily gunfire along the border since the start of the war in Gaza about seven months ago.
