FALCON POWERS – The European Union announced on Tuesday that there are over 2,000 trucks carrying humanitarian aid and commercial goods stuck on the Egyptian side of the Rafah border crossing with the Gaza Strip.
The Directorate-General for Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations of the European Union stated on the ‘X’ platform that “due to the (Israeli) intensive military operations, the Rafah crossing remains closed”.
It added that “more than 2,000 trucks loaded with humanitarian aid and commercial goods are waiting and ready to enter Gaza”.
The European Union called “for the sustainable, safe and unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid”.
The Directorate posted a short video on ‘X’ showing a large number of trucks carrying food items, lined up over a large area on the Egyptian side of the Rafah crossing.
On May 6th, the Israeli army announced the start of a military operation in Rafah, ignoring international warnings about the impact on the lives of the displaced in the city, and the next day they took control of the Rafah border crossing with Egypt.
Since October 7th, 2023, Israel has been waging an assault on Gaza, resulting in around 122,000 Palestinian casualties between killed and injured, mostly children and women, and around 10,000 missing, amidst massive destruction and famine that have claimed the lives of children and the elderly.
Israel continues its war despite a UN Security Council resolution to immediately halt it, and orders from the International Court of Justice to end the invasion of Rafah in the south of the Strip, and to take measures to prevent “genocide” and improve the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza.
