First Russian Nuclear-Powered Submarine to Visit Cuba… Havana: No Threat to the Region

FALCON POWERS – The Cuban authorities announced on Thursday that a Russian nuclear-powered submarine will visit Havana next week, but it will not be equipped with nuclear weapons.

The Cuban Revolutionary Armed Forces Ministry said in a statement that the Russian nuclear submarine “Kazan” will be accompanied by three ships, including the frigate “Admiral Gorshkov” as well as an oil tanker and a rescue tug, and will dock in the Cuban capital between June 12 and 17.

The ministry added, “None of the ships carry nuclear weapons, so their stopover in our country does not pose a threat to the region.” Russia’s unusual move to deploy warships near the United States, particularly the advanced submarine, comes amid escalating tensions between the two countries due to the war in Ukraine.
