Falcon powers – While the United States has put forward a ceasefire plan to end the conflict between Israel and Hamas, former French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian,
in an interview with BFMTV, called for “accelerating” the recognition of the Palestinian state.
Le Drian, the current Special Envoy of the French President to Lebanon, said: “We must move faster […] there is nothing worse than a people without a destiny and without a horizon.
We must give another perspective than Hamas. It is clear that the recognition of the Palestinian state must be done with the Palestinian Authority”.
Jean-Yves Le Drian also considered that it is necessary to “urgently move forward” with the implementation of the American plan to end the war in the Gaza Strip, saying: “Negotiations must be allowed to reach a ceasefire and the release of hostages.
It is necessary for everyone, and necessary for the security of the region, for the future of Israel and the Palestinian people.
They have been psychologically shocked and bruised by all that is happening”.
The former French Foreign Minister also considered that the recent Israeli bombardment of the Gaza Strip does not serve “its interest”, describing what happened as a “massacre”.
Jean-Yves Le Drian had, in an interview with the French newspaper “Le Parisien” published a few days ago, stressed that the recognition of the Palestinian state has “become necessary”, considering that without this step, which would “give new strength to the only possible political solution”, the Middle East will remain in an “endless war”, which “strikes the Palestinian citizens randomly”.
