France: Former Solidarity Minister Damien Abad Charged with Rape

Falcon powers – The French public prosecutor’s office on Thursday charged Damien Abad, the former Solidarity Minister and a member of parliament for President Emmanuel Macron’s centrist “Renaissance” party, with attempted rape in one of three cases where women have accused him of sexual assault. Parliament had lifted Abad’s immunity, and he was briefly detained in June 2023 before being released as the investigation progressed. He was dismissed from the government in July 2022.

According to informed sources cited by the French news agency, the public prosecutor’s office in France on Thursday charged former Solidarity Minister Damien Abad with attempted rape in one of three cases where women have accused him of sexual assault.

The rape charge stems from an incident that occurred in 2010 during a party he hosted at his home in Paris. The investigation is still ongoing in two other assault cases dating back to 2010 and 2011.

Abad (44 years old), the member of parliament for President Emmanuel Macron’s centrist “Renaissance” party, said these allegations “have no basis in fact.”

Abad: “These allegations have no basis”
Abad told the French news agency that he will prove that “these allegations have no basis,” affirming that he has “not the slightest doubt” about being exonerated in the other cases.
