Falcon powers – National Rally president Jordan Bardella and French Socialist Party leader Olivier Faure criticized Emmanuel Macron’s comments about not ruling out the deployment of French forces on the ground in Ukraine, but these statements were defended by Prime Minister Gabriel Attal, who said: “We are fighting to defend our values.”
Three days before the first round of early legislative elections in France to choose the 577 members of the National Assembly, French television hosted a debate with three of the main party and coalition leaders.
The TV debate participants were Prime Minister Gabriel Attal from the ruling Renaissance party, National Rally president Jordan Bardella, and Olivier Faure, the First Secretary of the French Socialist Party, representing the new Popular Front.
While purchasing power and domestic security were discussed, the war in Ukraine dominated the debate. National Rally president Jordan Bardella said he would not allow “Russian imperialism to absorb an allied country like Ukraine,” but reiterated that he would refuse to send French troops to Ukraine if he became prime minister, stating: “My position on this conflict is very simple, I have supported it throughout this European campaign, it is support for Ukraine and avoiding escalation with Russia, which I remind you is a nuclear power.”
