Falcon powers – On Monday, May 27th, an English teacher was attacked with a knife during a class session at a high school in Chémilly-sur-Anjou, in the Maine-et-Loire region of western France. The injury to her face was not life-threatening. The police arrested the 18-year-old suspect, who is a student.
It seems things were going normally – the student arrived at the Héroum high school in Chémilly-sur-Anjou at 8:45 am and went to the English class with 19 of his classmates. According to the investigation, the student had returned to the school he had been attending for three years after a medical leave. All his classmates describe him as having a “kind and cheerful” behavior.
The student politely exchanged with the English teacher at the beginning of the class, according to the public prosecutor in Angers, Éric Bouillet, who spoke to the media in a press conference, indicating that the session had started without any problems.
After the break around 9:45 am, the student grabbed the teacher from behind and stabbed her in the face, causing panic in the classroom. The English teacher suffered a “very slight physical injury… on the cheek.” However, Éric Bouillet confirmed that “the psychological impact on this teacher (…) will be much stronger.”
Due to the panic caused by his actions in the classroom, the student quickly left the school premises through a window “after abandoning his weapon.” He was then quickly arrested and detained by the police.
The police have ruled out “radicalization” as a motive for the attack.
