Hamas Leader: This Is What We Will Do with Our Weapons!

Falcon powers – A senior political official in Hamas has confirmed that the movement will lay down its weapons if the demands of the Palestinian people for an independent state on the 1967 territories are met in accordance with international legitimacy.

A high-ranking political official in Hamas, speaking to the Associated Press, stated that the movement is prepared to agree to a ceasefire with Israel for a period of five years or more, and that it will disarm and transform into a political party if a Palestinian state is established on the territories occupied in 1967.

The statements were made by Khalil al-Hayya, a member of Hamas’ political bureau and deputy leader of the movement in the Gaza Strip, in an interview on Wednesday amid a stalemate in ongoing ceasefire talks that have been ongoing for months.

Al-Hayya stated that any resistance movement would lay down its arms if its people’s rights were achieved. He emphasized that Israel, its prime minister, and its army have repeatedly pledged to crush Hamas and eliminate its military and administrative presence after the outbreak of the war, which was ignited by the events at Al-Aqsa Mosque on October 7. He also highlighted the strong opposition of its current leadership and its extremist government to the establishment of a Palestinian state on the territories occupied in the 1967 war.

Al-Hayya, who has represented Hamas in negotiations on ceasefire, hostage exchange, and prisoners, spoke with a challenging tone at times and at other times in a conciliatory manner.

In his interview with the Associated Press in Istanbul, Al-Hayya stated that Hamas wants to join the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), which is led by the rival Fatah faction, to form a unified government
