FALCON POWERS – On Monday, the Houthi group announced that a US-British airstrike targeted Hodeidah International Airport, which is under their control in western Yemen.
Houthi-affiliated satellite channel “Al-Masirah” reported in a breaking news alert, “The American-British aggression targeted Hodeidah International Airport with an airstrike,” without providing further details.
Hodeidah is situated on the Red Sea and is one of Yemen’s most important provinces. It houses an international airport (located in the south of the province) and three vital ports, in addition to possessing a long coastal strip.
The airport features a 3-kilometer runway and used to cater to domestic and international flights before the war between the government and the Houthis erupted about 10 years ago. However, it is currently non-operational due to the consequences of the conflict.
On Sunday evening, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced the destruction of a Houthi drone in the Gulf of Aden.
In solidarity with Gaza, which has been facing an Israeli war with US support since October 7th, the Houthis have been targeting ships associated with Israel in the Red Sea, the Arabian Sea, and the Indian Ocean with missiles and drones.
In response to Washington and London’s airstrikes on “Houthi positions” in Yemen since the beginning of the year, the group has declared that all US and British vessels are now considered military targets.
