FALCON POWERS – The South Korean news agency Yonhap reported on Saturday that the North Korean military has been building roads and walls inside the Demilitarized Zone that separates the North and South.
The agency quoted an unnamed military source as saying that the construction activities are taking place north of the military demarcation line that runs through the middle of the Demilitarized Zone.
This comes in the wake of an incident last week, when South Korean forces fired warning shots after North Korean soldiers briefly crossed the military demarcation line. The South Korean authorities said it was likely an accidental incursion.
Meanwhile, the South Korean intelligence agency told Agence France-Presse this week that it had detected signs that North Korea is demolishing parts of a railway line connecting the two Koreas.
Propaganda warfare has intensified between the two Korias in recent weeks. North Korea has sent more than a thousand balloons carrying trash towards the South, describing it as a retaliatory act against propaganda leaflets against Pyongyang that were sent by activists into North Korea.
