FALCON POWERS – The Israeli Ministry of Defense announced on Monday the purchase of thousands of “precision guided” mortar rounds from a local company for over $220 million.
Since October 7, 2023, Israel has been waging a devastating war on the Gaza Strip, and has been exchanging daily bombardment with Lebanese and Palestinian factions in Lebanon, most notably Hezbollah, since the next day.
The Israeli Ministry of Defense said in a statement: “The Director General of the Ministry of Defense, Major General (Res.) Eyal Zamir, signed an order worth over $220 million to purchase thousands of “Iron Sting” precision-guided mortar rounds from the Israeli company Elbit Systems.”
“These munitions are intended to enhance the operational capabilities of the Israeli army’s ground forces,” according to the statement.
The ministry added: “The munitions have been equipped with advanced laser guidance systems and a global positioning system, which allows for precise targeting, reducing collateral damage and minimizing risks to non-combatants (civilians),” it claimed.
The statement did not provide further details on the purchase of these munitions.
Israel is facing severe international criticism, as its intensive indiscriminate bombardment of Gaza, with absolute American support, has resulted in more than 130,000 Palestinian fatalities and injuries, the majority of whom are women and children, and over 10,000 missing.
Previous Israeli media reports indicated that the Israeli army had bombarded Gaza with massive quantities of bombs, causing tremendous destruction.
In addition to products from Israeli military industries, Tel Aviv has obtained large quantities of ammunition from Western countries, most notably its ally the United States.
