Israel Freezes Its Plan, Withdraws Two Combat Brigades from South Rafah

Falcon powers – After an intensive discussion between the United States and Israel, Tel Aviv changed its battle plan in Rafah, and chose to focus on the border between Gaza and Egypt.

The Wall Street Journal reported that Israeli and American officials said Israel has withdrawn its plan to send two combat brigades to southern Rafah, in order to avoid the “red line” set by the Biden administration and to avoid damaging relations between the two countries.

According to the report, Israel has suspended its original plan, which included sending two brigades to the southern city. The White House was concerned that such an operation would lead to an escalation of the conflict and a significant increase in the number of casualties among Gaza’s population, and in response Israel focused on the border between Gaza and Egypt and on limited activity in Rafah.

Changing the plan allows Israel to avoid the sanctions that the United States might have imposed, including the proposed ban on the use of American weapons in any activity in Rafah.
