Israel.. The Supreme Court freezes investigations into the “October 7th failures”

FALCON POWERS – The Israeli Supreme Court (the highest judicial body) ordered, on Sunday, an immediate suspension of the State Comptroller’s investigation into the failure of the Israeli army and the “Shin Bet” intelligence service regarding the events of last October 7th, according to the Hebrew media.

The Hebrew newspaper “Maariv” said that “the Supreme Court issued a decision today (Sunday) to freeze the investigation being conducted by the State Comptroller into the failure of the Israeli army and the Shin Bet in dealing with the events of October 7th.”

According to the newspaper, the freeze will be in effect until the hearing session, which will be held next July.

The court justified its decision “by the complex security situation, and attaching great weight to the secret opinions of security officials,” according to the same source.

On several occasions, the Chief of the General Staff, Hertzi Halevi, opposed this investigation, claiming that it “harms the war effort.”

For his part, State Comptroller Matanyahu Englman expressed his opposition to suspending the investigation, and stressed that there is an “urgent need to conduct it at this stage at all levels; civilian, political and military,” according to the same newspaper.

The State Comptroller began the investigation into the failures of the October 7th events in February of this year.

The State Comptroller in Israel, whose mission is to monitor the actions and policies of the government, is affiliated with the Knesset (parliament).

On October 7th, Hamas launched an attack on military points and settlements adjacent to the Gaza Strip, in which about 1,200 Israelis were killed, about 5,431 were injured, and the movement captured at least 239, dozens of whom were exchanged with Israel during a temporary truce, while others were killed during the Israeli bombardment across the Strip.

Since that date, Israel has launched a devastating war on Gaza with absolute American support, leaving more than 122,000 Palestinians dead or injured, which has placed Tel Aviv in international isolation and led to its legal prosecution before the International Court of Justice.

Israel continues its war despite two resolutions from the UN Security Council to stop it immediately, and orders from the International Court of Justice to end the invasion of Rafah and take measures to prevent “genocide” and improve the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza.
