FALCON POWERS – The Israeli newspaper Maariv launched a scathing attack on Egypt against the backdrop of the current tensions in the relations between Cairo and Tel Aviv due to the military operation in Rafah.
The Hebrew newspaper accused Cairo of “deceiving Israel over the past years and playing a double game, secretly supporting Hamas.”
The newspaper, in a report titled “Egypt tricked us and put us to sleep, and played a double game… and now is the time to wake up,” said that Egypt played a double game in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, and quietly chose to stand by Hamas and supplied it for years through the tunnels with the military means with which it fights Israel today.
David Ben-Best, the author of the Hebrew newspaper’s report, said that for years, Egypt had deceived us with misleading information that it had destroyed Hamas’ tunnels.
He continued: “For years we have heard stories about pumping sewage water into the tunnels between the Egyptian city of Rafah and the Gaza Strip, but the quantities of weapons discovered by the Israeli army were huge, which surprised Israel, as Gaza was not in this massive military situation without the assistance and knowledge of the Egyptian authorities, as luxury cars pass next to huge quantities of missiles and weapons through the tunnels, and all this would not have happened without Egyptian assistance.”
He continued: “Egypt has never aligned itself with Israel in any international forum, and the voices have always been against it, and now Cairo is joining the lawsuit of South Africa against Israel.”
