FALCON POWERS – The Ministry of Health announced today (Thursday) that evidence has been found of the presence of type 2 poliovirus components in sewage samples in Gaza.
The sample results are consistent with the findings reached by the World Health Organization in Egypt. The samples, which were tested in an Israeli laboratory accredited by the World Health Organization, raise concerns about the presence of the virus in this region.
The ministry stated that “the samples tested in an Israeli laboratory raise concerns about the presence of the virus in this region,” referring to the laboratory where the samples were examined, which is accredited by the World Health Organization.
The ministry added that “in general, tests to detect the poliovirus are regularly conducted in sewage water to identify the potential for the silent spread of the disease.” The Israeli Health Ministry said it is “following up and studying the necessary steps to prevent the risk of the disease spreading in Israel.”
