FALCON POWERS – The government of Jamaica has officially recognized the State of Palestine, as confirmed by Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Kamina Johnson Smith.
Following discussions in Jamaica’s Cabinet, Smith stated, “We continue to advocate for the two-state solution as the only viable option for a lasting resolution to the long-standing conflict, ensuring Israel’s security and supporting the dignity and rights of the Palestinians. By recognizing the State of Palestine, Jamaica reinforces its call for a peaceful solution.”
She further explained that the decision aligns with Jamaica’s strong commitment to the principles of the United Nations Charter, which seeks to foster mutual respect and peaceful coexistence among nations, while recognizing the sovereignty of international law and the right of peoples to self-determination.
Smith added, “We have concerns regarding the war in Gaza and the escalating humanitarian crisis. In addition to calling for a peaceful resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, the government advocates for diplomatic dialogue instead of military actions.” With Jamaica’s recognition, it joins 140 member states of the United Nations that acknowledge the State of Palestine.
