Jordanian Foreign Minister: If Cancelling the Peace Agreement with Israel Serves Palestine, We Would Do It!

Falcon powers – Jordan’s Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi stated on Saturday that if canceling the peace agreement signed with Israel in 1994 would serve the interests of Palestine, Jordan would not hesitate to do so. The minister made these remarks during a dialogue session in the capital, Amman, according to the official television channel “Al-Mamlaka.”

On October 26, 1994, Israel and Jordan signed a peace treaty under U.S. sponsorship.

However, relations between the two sides have experienced several crises due to repeated Israeli escalations in the Palestinian territories in general and in Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa Mosque in particular.

Safadi stated, “Jordan signed the peace agreement in the context of collective Arab efforts to achieve a just and comprehensive peace.

” He added that “Jordan signed the agreement after our Palestinian brothers in the Palestinian Authority signed the Oslo Accords in 1993.”
