Key Amendments Made by Hamas to the Prisoner Swap and Truce Proposal with Israel

Falcon powers – On Thursday, sources revealed the amendments that the Hamas movement has made to its proposal for a prisoner swap deal with Israel and a ceasefire.

The sources said that “Hamas is demanding that the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip begins in the first phase of the swap deal, not the third phase.”

Additionally, the sources stated that “Hamas is demanding a ceasefire to begin in the first phase, and it rejects any Israeli objections to the names of senior prisoners it wants released.

Hamas also rejects the deportation of any released prisoners and demands their return to their original home countries. The release of Palestinian prisoners should be according to seniority.”

The sources explained that Hamas wants “the Israeli withdrawal from the Netzarim axis (a passage that separates the south of the Strip from the north) on the third day of the implementation of the deal.”

Earlier, an Israeli official was quoted by the Hebrew website Walla as saying that Hamas had rejected the outlines of the prisoner release deal presented by US President Joe Biden.

The Israeli official indicated that “the mediators conveyed Hamas’s response to Israel on Tuesday evening.”

On Tuesday evening, the Qatari Foreign Ministry announced that Doha and Cairo had received a response from Hamas and the Palestinian factions regarding the Israeli proposal for a ceasefire in Gaza.

Both Hamas and Islamic Jihad confirmed that the factions’ response regarding the proposed ceasefire in Gaza stipulates a complete cessation of aggression and a full withdrawal from the Strip.

It is worth noting that on the previous Monday, the UN Security Council adopted a US draft resolution regarding the proposed ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, with 14 members voting in favor and Russia abstaining.

Russian Permanent Representative to the UN Vasily Nebenzya stated that this resolution is vague and depends on agreements managed by unclear mediators, without specifying what they are negotiating or what Israel has agreed to.
