King of Jordan: We Stand Today at a Critical Juncture in Human History

Falcon powers – The Jordanian monarch, King Abdullah II, stated, “We stand today at a critical juncture in human history, and our shared conscience is being tested now due to the catastrophe in Gaza, with our very humanity at stake.”

The Jordanian King, during his opening remarks at the International Conference for Emergency Humanitarian Response in the Gaza Strip, held at the King Hussein Bin Talal Convention Center on the shore of the Dead Sea, added that “the international humanitarian response in Gaza is greatly inadequate, as there are obstacles at all levels in delivering aid, and the humanitarian aid delivery process cannot wait for a ceasefire, nor can it be subject to the political agendas of any party.”

He continued, “There is a need for a strong coordination mechanism that includes all stakeholders on the ground, and effective and comprehensive disengagement between the actors on the ground is essential to ensure that relief agencies can work, organize, and fulfill their duties safely, adequately, and sustainably.”

He further elaborated, “There is a need for hundreds of trucks inside Gaza, and more aid to ensure its continuous and effective flow through the land routes to Gaza, and we cannot wait for months to mobilize these resources, as what we have today is simply far from what we need.”

The King mentioned that “the land corridor is the most effective way for the flow of aid to the Strip, and there is an urgent need for international resources to focus on that urgently. We must be ready now to deploy a sufficient number of trucks to deliver aid on a daily basis.”

The King affirmed that Jordan “will continue to send aid alongside international organizations and donors, through land despite the obstacles, and Jordan will continue air landing operations, and will consider the possibility of using heavy-duty helicopters to secure aid in the short term, once a ceasefire is reached.”

In turn, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi said that “Egypt has repeatedly warned of the dangers of the war on the Gaza Strip”, stressing that “military and security solutions will only bring more bloodshed to the region.”

He emphasized that “Egypt welcomes the adoption by the United Nations Security Council of Resolution 2735, which supports the reach of a comprehensive ceasefire agreement and an exchange deal, ensuring the delivery of adequate and sustainable humanitarian aid to all parts of the Gaza Strip.”

He called on the countries to “compel Israel to stop using hunger as a weapon in Gaza and remove the obstacles to the delivery of humanitarian aid.”
