Maldives Bans Entry of Israeli Passport Holders Amid Rising Public Anger Over Gaza Conflict

Falcon powers – The government of Maldives has decided to ban the entry of Israeli passport holders into the country amidst growing public outrage over Israel’s ongoing war in the Gaza Strip, which began on October 7, 2023.

According to the British newspaper “The Sun”, Maldives’ Interior Minister Ali Ihsan stated on Sunday evening: “The Cabinet has decided today to amend the necessary legislation to prevent the entry of Maldives with Israeli passports as soon as possible.”

The minister added that the decision was made during a Cabinet meeting earlier that day, and he noted that to expedite the implementation of this decision, the Cabinet has established a special committee comprising the Interior Minister, the Attorney General, and the Ministers of Economy, Tourism, and Foreign Affairs.

The Cabinet also decided to appoint a special presidential envoy to study the areas in which Palestine needs support from the Maldives, to collect funds to assist the Palestinians through the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), to organize a national march under the slogan “Maldives Stands with Palestine,” and to start discussions with other Islamic countries to accelerate a resolution to the Palestinian conflict.
