Musk Clarifies Reason for Tesla’s Downsizing of Supercharger Team

FALCON POWERS – Elon Musk has explained the reason behind the downsizing of Tesla’s Supercharger team in a message on his social media platform, X.

Earlier this week, it was reported that Tesla had let go of several key members of its Supercharger team in a surprising move. This was part of a larger effort to reduce the workforce by nearly 10 percent. Musk clarified that Tesla will continue to expand the Supercharger network but at a slower pace than before. Additionally, the focus will now be on 100% uptime and expanding existing locations. He stated, “Tesla still plans to grow the Supercharger network, but the pace of new site construction will slow down, with an increased focus on 100% uptime and expanding existing locations.”

Tesla recently opened up Supercharger access to several automakers, including Rivian and Ford, and more than 10 other major car companies are set to gain charging capabilities at Supercharger locations in North America.

Furthermore, automakers are choosing to adopt the NACS connector and will install the inlet on their vehicles in 2025 and beyond.

With the influx of electric vehicles gaining access to what will now become a slowly expanding Supercharger network, the timing seems incredibly odd.

There are many Tesla and Musk enthusiasts on X who are protesting the decision to handle the matter in this way. With many vehicles now accessing the Supercharger network, this move does not seem to be the most ideal.

There are also certain U.S. states, such as Hawaii and Alaska, that have only a few Supercharger networks available, leaving drivers with limited or no charging options. Other rural areas require significant driving distances to reach a Supercharger.
