NATO Pledges to Admit Ukraine, Sends Message to China

FALCON POWERS – NATO members are preparing to support Ukraine’s “irreversible path” towards full integration into the Alliance, and will urge China to stop supporting Russia’s military efforts against Kyiv.

According to a draft joint statement expected at the NATO summit in Washington, China has become one of Russia’s main supporters in its war against Ukraine, in addition to posing a challenge to Europe.

The draft states that the Alliance members are determined to provide Ukraine with at least 40 billion euros in funding over the next year, as well as establish mechanisms to organize the supply of military equipment and training of its forces. The draft also says that the allies will commit to supporting Ukraine’s path towards full integration into the European Union and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.

The Alliance will extend an invitation to Ukraine to join as soon as all members agree and all conditions are met. The draft also addresses the importance of the Indo-Pacific region for NATO, as developments there directly affect the security of Europe and the Alliance members.

The draft indicates that the Alliance is concerned about China’s developments in space capabilities and activities, and will urge Beijing to participate in strategic discussions to mitigate risks.

It adds that the Alliance members are prepared to maintain their communication with Moscow in an effort to reduce risks and de-escalate.

NATO members have been meeting since Tuesday and will continue until Thursday in Washington to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Alliance’s founding.
