The foreign ministers of Egypt, Jordan, and France call for an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza.

They emphasized the importance of Egypt’s role in the efforts to alleviate the suffering of the civilian population in Gaza, as well as in the negotiations regarding issues of ceasefire, prisoners, and detainees.

Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry stated, “We have emphasized the importance of achieving an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and rejected the displacement of the Palestinian people from their lands. We discussed the seriousness of any military operation in the densely populated city of Rafah.”

Meanwhile, Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi said, “We are still facing Israeli rejection that leads to further suffering, and there is consensus on fundamental issues related to a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and the entry of aid.” He pointed out that “Israel has used starvation as a weapon against the Palestinian people, and it must be held accountable for its actions in the Gaza Strip. The international community must take action to stop its violations.”

Safadi stressed the need to halt the supply of weapons to Israel and the necessity of imposing sanctions on the Israeli government if it continues to defy the will of the international community. He explained that the French position has significantly evolved in calling for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.

French Foreign Minister Stephane Sejourné stated, “We have come to Cairo to work together to achieve a ceasefire and find a political solution in Gaza,” adding that there are joint Arab-European efforts to resolve the crisis in Gaza. The French minister confirmed that they are against any military action in the city of Rafah, and it is time to establish permanent peace foundations in the Middle East with international consensus. He also mentioned consultations on a French resolution to the UN Security Council regarding the political track in the Middle East, emphasizing that their goal is to achieve peace in the region, and they can reach consensus on their initiative as a permanent member of the Security Council.
