FALCON POWERS – As tensions escalate following the October 7th attack, Israel is preparing for worse-case scenarios in case the conflict expands further. One significant preparation is in the medical and health sector, as Israel works to expand its capacity in an underground hospital in Jerusalem.
The British network “Sky News” was granted exclusive access to the hospital located beneath the Hadassah Medical Center. The number of beds has been increased to 350, with another 100 beds on their way to the hospital.
Dr. Yehizkel Kaine told “Sky News,” “The hospital is designed to withstand biological and chemical attacks. We have a pressure equalization room built with two separate sets of blast-proof doors.”
According to the network, Israel is planning for worst-case scenarios such as a full-scale war with Hezbollah. In this context, Kaine added, “Hospitals in the north will be overwhelmed with casualties and will themselves come under fire. In that case, they will need to evacuate their patients to the center of the country, as we did in the early weeks of the war.”
The hospital houses Israel’s largest ventilator unit, treating both adults and children. It also excels in treating psychological trauma and rehabilitating the elderly.
If Jerusalem itself comes under attack, the hospital can evacuate the most vulnerable individuals to the underground shelters within a few hours. These shelters can remain sealed for up to 96 hours.
