Radio: Polish state-owned company sold parts used to make Iranian drones

FALCON POWERS – The private Polish radio station Radio Zet reported on Thursday that a state-owned Polish company sold parts used in the manufacture of Iranian combat drones, and added that prosecutors have been investigating the case since 2022.

The radio station did not mention its sources.

Iran supplied Russia with thousands of “kamikaze” Shahed-136 drones during its invasion of Ukraine that began in February 2022. Moscow used them to deplete Ukraine’s air defenses and strike infrastructure in areas far from the front lines. Prosecutors in Poland said in an email that they are investigating the potential export of dual-use products manufactured in Poland without any reference to Iran.

Poland, a member of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, is one of Ukraine’s biggest supporters, whether under the previous nationalist government or the current pro-European administration of Donald Tusk.

However, according to Radio Zet, a Polish company belonging to the Industrial Development Agency sold fuel pumps that ended up as part of Iranian drones.

According to the radio station, the WSK Poznań company sold spare parts to Iran Khodro, which produces agricultural tractors, but the pumps ended up in Iranian factories producing military drones, which Russia later purchased.

It said the Internal Security Agency is investigating the case, which is what alerted the prosecutors.

In its emailed statement, the prosecutor’s office said it was “carrying out activities related to the export of products manufactured at WSK Poznań company from Poland as dual-use products without the required legal permit from the Minister of Development and Technology.” The office added that the company’s CEO at the time was charged as part of the ongoing investigation with selling strategically important products without the appropriate permit, which carries a prison sentence of up to 10 years.

The Internal Security Agency, the Industrial Development Agency, the Ministry of State Assets, and the company did not immediately respond to Reuters requests for comment.
