Russia Accuses the US of Wanting to Deploy Weapons in Space

FALCON POWERS – Russia accused the United States on Tuesday of seeking to deploy weapons in space, a day after the UN Security Council rejected a Russian draft resolution on the matter and after similar accusations from Washington.

With Washington and its allies rejecting this text, the United States has proven that it is seeking to “place weapons in outer space and turn it into a theater of military confrontation,” according to Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova.

Zakharova said, “The results of the vote on the draft resolution on the prevention of an arms race in outer space and the security of outer space, submitted by Russia with the participation of China, to the UN Security Council for consideration, are disappointing.”

She added, “The United States and its allies, despite all the steps we have taken to take their proposals into account, including the developments of the American-Japanese draft resolution counterpart, opposed our constructive and comprehensive initiative and once again showed the real priorities in the field of outer space, which are not aimed at keeping outer space free from any kind of weapons, but at deploying weapons in outer space and turning it into a theater of military confrontation.”

The Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman said, “Unfortunately, another opportunity to ensure the prevention of an arms race in outer space has been lost due to the mistake of the United States and its allies.”

She said her country will continue to contribute consistently to keeping outer space free of any kind of weapons and preventing it from turning into another area of tension, arms race, and confrontation.
